    We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Research and Development team at Johnson & Johnson Vision. The Postdoctoral Researcher will play a vital role in advancing scientific understanding and technological innovations in the field of eye care.

    This is a full-time research position in the Department of Biological Sciences, R&D. The candidate will coordinate pre-clinical research activities for R&D projects such as planning, scheduling, and conducting in vitro, ex vivo, and/or in vivo experiments, and assisting with pre-clinical safety studies (including protocol and report generations required for product biocompatibility evaluations and toxicological risk assessments. The individual will work in a team-oriented environment as part of a dynamic research group that is focused on innovation and new product development in Ophthalmic Medical Device technologies.

    The duration of this position is two years with the possibility of extension or conversion into a full-time role based on performance and business need. This role is based in Irvine, CA.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct independent research projects and/or in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including chemical characterization, regulatory toxicology, focused on advancing eye care products and ophthalmic device technologies.
    • Employ knowledge in toxicological principle and relevant regulations/standards to assess the safety and biocompatibility of device components, evaluate potential toxic effects of materials on ocular issues and systemic health, and develop risk mitigation strategies
    • Design and implement experimental protocols, utilizing strong hands-on skills to develop and evaluate prototypes of ophthalmic surgical devices.
    • Perform statistical analysis and present findings of preclinical testing/studies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Apply expertise in cell culture and animal tissue handling to develop and refine in vitro and in vivo models for preclinical testing.
    • Perform scientific literature and toxicological database search, extracts relevant information, orders, evaluates, and presents information to aid the toxicological assessment and product safety risk management.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Ph.D. in Toxicology, Biological Science or related field received in the last 0-3 years with industry experience in biocompatibility and toxicology.
    • Experience working with cell culture, animal tissue and animal ocular models is preferred, including handling and processing.
    • Proven laboratory research skills and experience
    • Strong hand-on experimental skills including expertise in prototyping experimental setups, and data analysis
    • Strong publication record demonstrating expertise in experimental design and analysis
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present research findings
    • Experience with GraphPad Prism and EndNote preferred
    • Knowledge/experience with aseptic technique, eye tissue and/or corneal tissue preferred

    The salary for this position is $109,250/year, this position is eligible for a sign-on bonus. This is a duration based role that has eligibility for severance.

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

    • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year
    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year
    • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
